Teaching

I develop and run hands-on bioinformatics training programs and lectures. To reach the widest audience possible, many of the materials and lectures are freely available online.

Courses I Run:

Bioinformatics Workshop/Applied Bioinformatics for Genomics

I founded this full academic-year course that has reached over 500 students, faculty, and staff over the last 8 years. We teach programming, statistics, and data visualization, coupled with deep dives into relevant genomic technologies. The goal is to enable attendees to analyze data in rigorous and reproducible ways, so that they can accelerate their own research programs

Advanced Sequencing Technologies & Bioinformatics Analysis

I've been a co-organizer of this Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory course since 2021, where we put about 20 students through a two-week intensive learning experience, equipping them with the computational skills they need to analyze their own genomic and epigenomic data.

Computational Cancer Genomics Summer Program

I developed this summer program for undergraduates and masters students who have computational or statistical skills and want to learn to apply them to biological research. In addition to organizing the internship matching process, I teach a three-day "Bioinformatics Bootcamp" crash course to get students up to speed. Many former students have gone on to graduate school or careers in the field.
